Door Lock Cylinder replacement

I do not have a key for the current door locks on my 66 Chevy C-10. Thus the question... Is it easier to grind the tumblers to match the ignition key as it fits into the lock, but wont turn it, or if you buy new door lock cylinders, How are you able to pop out the old cylinders? is there a trick?
I am grateful for any ideas on what has worked for others in the past.

Re: Door Lock Cylinder replacement

The new manufacture locks only fit new repo handels. You can make em work but it requires some grinding. Pop the cylinder out and take it to a smith they should be able to recreate a key based on the code on the cylinder. That's what I did an it cost $10

Re: Door Lock Cylinder replacement

I did this a few years ago on mine. I don't remember the exact sequence. But i'm sure i removed the inner door panel and was able to get to the lock area. If i remember right, there was a wavy spring clip that you slide away
and the handle/lock comes right out. There is probably a screw to remove on the other end of the handle, and you'll also have to remove the bar from the lock that does the locking. It's not hard to do though.

Re: Door Lock Cylinder replacement

I replaced the locks in my stock handles with new ones and they fit fine, no mods needed at all.

Re: Door Lock Cylinder replacement

I need to do this on mine. For now I installed power locks because it was cheaper.
