Carpeting question

Looking to get some carpet for my truck this month and get rid of the old vinyl Matt.
What brand has the best fit?
Also I want looped pile carpet like the older muscle cars had. I understand that the early squares had this. Will the fit a late 80's truck? I'm unsure if there was any floorboard revisions between 73-87.

Thanks!

Re: Carpeting question

I got my carpet from LMC a while ago, it fit pretty good and has formed to the floor of my truck over time. However, I'm not sure whether it was the way I installed it, but I had to trim some off the driver and passenger sides. Other than that, i like the way it came out.

Re: Carpeting question

Have you checked into ACC? I believe that is where most aftermarket suppliers get their carpets from.

Re: Carpeting question

I think all of the big auto interior suppliers online give you the option of pile or loop carpet. I would make sure to get the better grade of carpet they offer, with a good backer, unless you are doing a special dynamat or other undrlayment. I had a local upholster do my carpet and it did not turn out well, because it was a cheap (thin) carpet and not molded - but I did not want to spend a lot of money on the truck. I have it all covered with Huskyliner floor liners and Walmart treadmill mat over the hump and outside edges, so you don't see the carpet anyway and it does not get dirty.

Re: Carpeting question

one tip, the carpet I ordered had a the pad glue to the back of it.. it was a lot easier to cut the pad off, glue the pad to the truck floor (added more padding where there wasn't any..) and then glue the carpet down.. was 1000 times easier than trying to do them at the same time...

Re: Carpeting question

Do I really need to glue the carpet down? I'm going to put some sound deadner but not Dyno matt. Prob a factory style Eva since it works well

Re: Carpeting question

I'm not sure if you NEED to.... but mine would have had wrinkles and felt loose, I think...
I ran sound mat also.

Maybe others will chime in.. me personally.. I hate when carpet slides around...

Re: Carpeting question

Well there are the plastic tabs in the corner on the firewall and the platic door sill plates not to mention I have a thru flood hurst shifter plus seat bolts. I wouldn't think it would move? Plus it's nicer to be able to run speaker wiring with an easy out carpet

That's where I bought mine, 80/20 loop pile, no complaints. I also purchased additional carpeting from them (same style by the yard) that I used for the kick panels and rear cab wall.

Re: Carpeting question

yea i went with ACC on my s10...they shipped it in a roll so when it came time to lay the carpet in i chose to leave a bunch of weights on top of the carpet to help it mold to the contours of the floor for about a day or so then i proceeded to finish installing it. I am satisfied with he product...i think the only thing that stands out to me is the small rubber/plastic cutout by the pedals where your foot rests...its not the same as original. A set of floor mats quickly covers this up however
