Bleeding clutches, hand pump saves the day
Hello all, I posted a while back about replacing the slave cylinder on my 85 sierra and thought I'd share my findings.
I read that you're supposed to remove the slave, tip it at a 45 with bleed valve up, and pump the clutch. However, what I did, was borrow a hand bleed vacuum pump and that worked like a CHARM. My buddy said you'd wear yourself out pumping the clutch trying to get it bled the old school way. It took me about a 12oz jug of fluid before I got all the air out. There was a metal line going from my slave to the master and bending it to get the bleed valve on top would risk breaking it. The replacement line was like 50 bucks from o'reilly's so I just borrowed the hand vac. The hand pumps are going for about 40 bucks for a good one on amazon. I'm definitely gonna get one, insanely handy tool. |

Re: Bleeding clutches, hand pump saves the day
great tool to have. I had to have my front brake lines all apart on saturday and got a ton of air in them. It would have taken forever without the pump all by myself.
