uper control arm pics

im looking for pics of upper a arm bolts that have been swapped out for longer ones to get the camber back in line after 3 in coils.i dont want to use a ton of shims im thinking of machining a thick spacer and using shims to fine tune the alignment.any body done this?or should i just bite the bullet and buy spindles and dropped coils?

Re: uper control arm pics

We used to do that back in the 80s before spindles were available we didn't have many options like today. It is truly a big PITA to do it that way and your alignment guy will probably ban you from his rack after he fights for a couple of hours getting it half way lined up. IMHO, I would get what you need to lower it right, you won't regret it.

I say bite the bullet. I have never heard of anyone being pleased with the ride from 3" coils. Spindles and cut stock springs, or 2" drop springs would be my choice.

Re: uper control arm pics

This how my 83 was lowered when I bought it new, it has 2 cut coils with what they called an alignment kit, longer bolts and a 1/2" spacer that sits behind the shims(spacer has the 3x's) been this way for the last 29 yrs with no problems

Re: uper control arm pics

So why Is it with my three inch drop springs and stock spindles I still have almost no spacers and struggle to get acceptable neg camber? Seems like everybody has to add spacers to get rid of to Much neg camber?

Re: uper control arm pics

So I wonder where I can get this "alignment kit"?also do you have a sway bar installed?cause the lower a arms are no longer close to parallel with the road.

Re: uper control arm pics

ok look at the pic,all kinds of bad stuff here.
1. lower a arm is not parallel to the road
2. tie rod angle is extreme
3.neg camber is out of limits
4.laying on the bump stop
can a sway bar be used with this?
ok i know i could cut off the bump stop stand
that solid shim was exactly what i was referring to
i could make one easily, the bolts could be welded to the frame to keep em from spinning while you align it.
just wondering if any one has run there truck like this for a while and what if any problems they had.

Not a good pic but, still retain the sway bar and no bump stops
