Who has smoothed their ramhorns?
Post up some pics. Was it worth the effort?

Re: Who has smoothed their ramhorns?
I did some smoothing of the set I bought. I didn't spend more than a few hours on mine, just wanted to "clean 'em up". I then heated 'em in my powder-coat oven to 300* to get all the oil out. Wiped down with acetone and foam-brush painted with POR-15 exhaust paint. Baked again at 200* and slow cooled. I tend to get anal, so I called that it. (SEE PICS).
Was it worth it? Probably not, but it was cool and a good exercise. On thing, all that cast iron grinding dust totally permeated the t-shirt and jeans I was wearing and they proceeded to "rust" when washed (threw 'em away), so watch where all that dust goes. Also, wear breathing protection. I coughed up iron dust for a week. Probably wasn't the smartest thing I'd ever done.

Re: Who has smoothed their ramhorns?
good safety tips, thanks. I've wondered about doing this also. Yours look great - have you installed them yet and, if so, have they held up very well? Not many cast iron parts and coatings seem to remain fresh, but your process seems very sound, so just curious.

Re: Who has smoothed their ramhorns?
Those are sweet but not an option for my budget.

I have smooth ram horns in the past and it's a ton of work and it's nasty! I started smoothing a set for my 67 but after getting one done I bought the stainless ones from Speedway. I will get some pictures of the smooth ram horn for you.

Re: Who has smoothed their ramhorns?
Would love to see pics? Did you use a band saw or just a grinder?
