Help me i am stupid and i hate working on drum brakes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

i put my new shoes on today and went to go put the drum back on and it would not go because the shoes where sticking out to far do i need to bleed the line off of that brake to let the shoes slip in to where they need to? Help my please guys the title of this post says it all

Turn the adjuster dial thing...that should either pull them in or push them out according to the direction you spin it. It looks like a little gear

Be sure to push the shoes together at the top which will push the wheel cylinder gizmos back in. When you remove the shoes, these usually pop out a bit.

Other than that, are you sure you have the shoe on correctly? The large one goes to the rear.

what ya need to do is to take the adjuster out. Unscrew the adjuster and clean it out good with some brake parts cleaner and before ya put it together put a dab of white grease ont he threads and in the cup on the other side screw it all the way so its closed reinstall it then use a brake adjuster tool and move the adjuster out ( from the backing plate you stick the tool int he hole back there) when the shoes are tight enough there will be just enough resistance when ya pull off the drum not too loose not too tight

You don't need to remove the adjuster, just lift the lock above the adjusting gear and turn the gear away from you.
