Im going to be replacing my oil pump when i put a new oil pan on should i just go woth a stock oil pump.?

I would go with a higher volume pump since not much more. Plus it could help you get more life out of the engine with increased oil pressure. Only thing I could see wrong is maybe if you have a bad valve cover gasket it would show soon due to the increase of oil there. I've heard Melling is the brand to go with. Also might replace the rear main seal while you're there. Just make sure to prime the pump before installing http://73-87.com/garage/oil_pump.htm

definately go with a high volume oil pump just make sure you check that the pump ya get will work with the stock oil pan youre putting on sometimes ya gotta get a bigger oil pan to put a high volume oil pump in

Ok i need a new oil pan any ways since when i bought the truck it was smashed in and it leaks. so i figured while i am putting a new pan on might as well replace the pump just to be on the safe side. so what kind of oil pan would you guys recommend.?

I would go with a 7qt. Moroso. Make sure to get the correct side oil dipstick.

Make sure to use a Fel-Pro single piece gasket model #OS 34510T. It is sooooo much better than a normal one! It is worth the $30. I think it fixed the oil leak too!

These are summit part numbers

MEL-55HV - MEL-55S1 - MEL-IS55E 38.29 for all before shipping and tax depending if you live in Ohio or not. Thats the oil pump (high volume) - pickup tube with screen - HD intermediate shaft and gears.

If you can buy the fel-pro one piece oil pan gasket those are really worth the money. I would also use a little gasket sealer around the rear main area even though your not supposed to do it wont hurt it just found out that it helps alot. FEL-OS34509T 34.39 doesn't say witch side the oil dip stick is on but Im pretty sure its for the driver side.

The 9T is for a one-piece rear main engine. The 10T is for both dipstick.

Hey the part number you gave me for the oil pump i typed it in but summit says they have nothing matching that number. Ok im editing my post i found the part number is it MEL-M55HV i just want to make sure this is right.

Use the 10T if your engine is older than an '86 (67-85 I think). The 9T or 9S are for one piece mains (86-up). If you have the original engine, use 10T

I just checked those two out and for my year of truck its the 10T i really like the idea of those one pieace gaskets i hate those two pieace ones i wished they had those back when my dad was doing this.

Yes you just need to make sure to use the pickup and shaft made for that pump. Also make sure to get the screen tube welded up to the pump.
