Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

Ok I'm looking for something a tad bit louder than a stock escalade with a 6.0 engine? Basically I want a deap throaty sound only when I get on the throttle. So far I have headers and 2.5 collectors. Can I just run true duals with no h or x-pipe and is this good for the engine? Muffler type and offset, any suggestions? Pros and cons from having exhaust exit behind the rear wheels versus under rear bumber? oh and I will not be running cats.

Re: Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

half of this is simply exhaust preference, not much specific to the ls engines. I run a true-dual, no xpipe with resonators ONLY dumping out of the step area before the wheels. Its loud, and it does drone on the freeway...BUT it sounds like a damn alcohol car at WOT. I may put some drop in baffles for more daily use, as my neighbors hate me.

Biggest con to pre-axle exhaust is that you get pulled over certain places. Its hard to argue and exhaust ticket...but on older trucks I find the cops tend to leave well enough alone. The rest is pretty much preference imo.

Re: Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

I've got a video of mine in my build thread. Thrush mufflers dumped and no cats.

Tad louder than stock, BIG magnaflows would me my choice. I have 18x4x9 magnaflows and its very quiet until you get on it. Taking it behind the axle always seems to sound better to me and isn't as prone to drone.

I've been doing some research on this same topic. It seems the Dynomax Super Turbo's are a good choice for a mild sound. The Hushpower's would be perfect but they seem to be a little pricey.

Re: Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

I run 2 22" magnaflows from headers back to rear tires/exit like stock. not too loud in lower RPMs which I LIKE and you can hear it when you press the pedal. I didnt want anything obnoxious for driving this thing around. I did that in another car, gets old.

Re: Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

I run 2 magnaflows, also. No crossover. It's not too loud at low rpms but sounds good at higher rpms. I run it on an open K/5 with 6.0L, camaro manifolds, no cat. I will occasionally blip the throttle when passing under a bridge to hear it!

However, I may be looking for something a tad quieter for my new 5.3L C10 build. It may be a touch too loud for my new build/daily driver. ( At least for me.)

Re: Muffler & exhaust suggestions?

I'm running 3" collector to 2 1/2 pipe to super 40s on my lq9 its pretty noisy at any rpm and the inside of my cab has been lizard skinned and phat matted at certain rpms my ears start to ring but I will have the exhaust exit behind the rear tire which will quit it down a little
