How much weight can a 4 link air spring rear suspension handle?

I am just curious as to what a setup like the total cost involved 4 bar air spring setup for 47-54 trucks can handle for a load. Not that i plan to haul much of a load but just for curiosity's sake.

I replaced the coil springs in my '69 with bags on the stock training arm. I had over a half ton of hay in the bed more than once with about 90psi in the rear bags without issue. not sure on a 4 link, though.

If you notch the frame that will be the first thing to break but there is a lot of bagged duallies out there running a 4 link and pulling big loads. As long as everything is installed good you shouldn't have to worry about breaking it.

It depends on the location of the spring. you can put an air bag right on top of or off the back of the axle and haul a tremendous amount of weight (semi truck style mount), and if you add a boxed notch than it would be an insane amount of weight. but with that set up you will sacrifice ride quality. for the best ride mount the air bags on top of the lower link bars and you would be amazed how nice it will ride. most bagged 1 tons will sleever the joints of the notch and plug weld the sleeves. dont worry my sister could weld a notch in and it would be stonger than the factory rail but if you place your bags on your link bars you would never have to worry about it anyway, than the strength of your bar is all that matters.
