Is this going to be a problem?
I bought a "72 a few weeks ago. I've been tearing it down to rebuild and came across a few issues. This particular one; I have no idea about. I'm not a frame guy and barely a body man.
I can tell by other pictures of "72 frames the hump--right in front of the coil spring--is not supposed to be humped at all. Does the hump impact the strength and integrity of the frame? I appreciate the help. |

I wouldn't sweat it unless there is some suspension part currently on the truck that caused it.
Take a pipe wrench, slip it on there and pull it back straight.

Re: Is this going to be a problem?
I don't have a clue what caused. I thought at first someone got some air in the truck and the trailing arm may have caught it, but the hump doesn't seem to line up with the arm.
I have no clue. |

Re: Is this going to be a problem?
I can't see how anything stock would have caused it, could have hit something that jumped up or maybe someone tried to jack it up from there.
Just get out the pipe wrench and you'll see just how soft the steel is.

Re: Is this going to be a problem?
I think the rear end would have hit the bed before the trailing arm could do that.I'm with blime its probably from a jack or something ran over.

Re: Is this going to be a problem?
Well, that's four peeps (one my buddy across the street) that says it looks like a botched "jack job."
Blime, I did get out there last night and mess with it... I see what you're talking about. I was told to cross measure the frame and that will tell me if it out of whack. Thanks guys, appreciate the input. |

Re: Is this going to be a problem?
Just remember that these things were made with tolerances and most have had a pretty tough life for the last 40 years.
Don't expect it to be razor straight and cracks are what you really need to look for.
