Does it look like this one?

I just ran a short sheet metal screw in mine and caught the inner part--it will come off then.

Mine still has the screw in it from a few years ago.

I can send you a pic tomorrow if you need it.

Re: Locking gas cap no key

I used a hammer and a big flat blade screwdriver and mine came of pretty easy. Locking gas caps are junk lol but it slows thiefs down enough to hopefully make them look elsewhere.

Re: Locking gas cap no key

Can you get behind the seat and unclamp the tube. Remove the tube, then either work from the inside of the tube of remove the cap from the outside. This way, if small shavings or parts fall out, they don't go in the tank.

However you decide to remove the locking gas cap,
I think I would refrain from "Making Sparks"!!!!

Re: Locking gas cap no key

If you have this style of oil filter wrench you may be able to twist it and break the lock??

Re: Locking gas cap no key

66 has an abs plastic filler tube, it would probably break before the cap would... Before i read taz's post I was going to suggest what he did... probably the best method, I actually did ths last year, once the tube was off there were 2 small screws under the cap and it was done!

Re: Locking gas cap no key

I lost the keys to my truck which had my gas cap key on it....I'm just gonna try buying another gas cap and using the keys from that. Generally speaking they're all keyed the same ironically.

Worst case I'll pick the lock. It's not that hard to do if you have/make the right tools.
