X-member interchangability

My friend has a 72 K-5 Blazer that he converted to 2WD nearly 30 years ago, utilizing an I-beam axle from a Chevy van. Now, to improve looks and handling, he is thinking about converting to independent front suspension and lowering the vehicle. Keeping in mind that his budget is very limited, will the front cross member and suspension from a 67-72 C-10 marry up to his 4WD frame?
