Vintage Air Trinary Switch w/ Flex-a-Lite Black Magic Fan wiring
Hi guys i'm wiring this vintage air trinary safety switch on my 70 LS1 swap.... I just need to make sure I am going at this right before i make any permanent connections.....First pic is of Vinatge Air's trinary wiring schematic... Second one is my own picture of what I think it should be wired like with my black magic fan....and finally the last one is for the Flex-a-Lite Black Magic Fan that already has a relax box attached to it....So since the radiator fan has a built in temp switch and relay, the wiring in my own drawing should work, correct? Thanks

no, on your drawing you have "key on power" coming from your tri sw.... it needs to go to terminal M of the fans control box.....
the blu or red wire from the tri sw. needs to go to ground that make sence? Last edited by 68 short step; 02-15-2012 at 07:31 PM. |

looking at it again, thats only if the M terminal operates when grounded... other then that you may need to add a relay.... wiring it up the way you want you would either blow the sw, or the wiring. cause you're trying to pass all the amps of the fan through the sw.

The amps from the fan wont be going through the trinary switch. The fan has a + that goes to the battery. The "C" Terminal just needs a + signal to activate the internal fan relay. At least that's how i see it.... "C" and "M" are essentially the same thing + 12v triggers.

Re: Vintage Air Trinary Switch w/ Flex-a-Lite Black Magic Fan wiring
Just checked it.... It takes 12.6 Amps to run the fan (Yes I measured Amps not Volts ) ..... It takes .11 Amps to give signal to terminal "C"..... The fan has an internal A/C relay that requires a positive input. I could run a relay and use the ground to trigger it but I don't believe I need to run a relay for .11 Amps. Is it ok to let .11 Amps go through the trinary switch? Again thank you guys for the help....

If the fans have built in relays then all you need is a 12 v source and a ground. The switch will handle the amps it takes to complete the circuit.
