Looks like a .38
The 12 guage blast hole in my old truck's bed was about 3 inches across (at least it missed the gas tank and tires!)

strange holes
I've had 2 trucks with similar holes. Both were for cables, 1 for CB antanna cable in trans hump and the other was a radio delete truck that needed route for antenna too. (neither done by me!!)

I shot a hole in a dodge 100 I had once while driving down the road. Went through the heater core, firewall, hit the upper A arm and ricochet'ed up and left a dent in the hood.
Moral of the story.... Dont load that new glock 10MM on the way home from the gun shop while driving if your'e not used to the trigger setup

A quarter in the picture would have helped for scale. Looks like its a 9mm or 40sw. Either way it adds some character.

when i was little me and my dad were out in the bush shooting the guns, he had a .38 revolver and was loading it, he had the drivers side door open on the 70 gmc and and the bullets on the seat, he put the 6th round in and gently put the hammer down, he was so gentle and still the shot went off, not hard enough to go trough the passenger door but it did go off righ below the fly window and it made a huge dent, he picked the lead up off the floor and it pretty much looked like it had came out of the gun, man hewas pissed, this truck was all original and mint, it was kinda funny though, iwas standing behind him the whole time this happenend, im suprised he didnt chit his pants, about a week later he put that gun on a chop saw, too dangerous

Man, your firewall strongly resembles my hood!! The previous owner said her son and a friend were sighting in thier deer rifles and his buddy was using the hood for a rest.........hole in hood, battery exploded, little bitty dents all over under hood.
