Anybody do a Integrated Head Straight Six with 700R4
Wassup my square body friends.
I put a T-5 in my '78 1/2 ton stepper with an integrated head straight six last year. It replaced the three on the tree...It's been cool...but my junkyard '83 Camaro trans is starting to get noisy... OK...it's always been noisy...the bottom line is that a manual trans isn't that fun on LA area freeways. I drive the truck more than I thought I would, and the manual trans is getting to be a pain in my gluteous maximus. Has anyone put a 700r4 or 200r4 in an integrated head 250 with a one barrel carb? I work with a bunch of hard core machinists and metal workers, so if I had to make a special bracket for the Mono-Jet carb, I'm sure I could get it done. THanks |

I dont know much about the two together but I'd have to say if the trans bolts up your biggest worry is gonna be to get the TV workin.

Re: Anybody do a Integrated Head Straight Six with 700R4
I know on my 78 with a non integrated head 250 the throttle cable bracket has the square opening for the kickdown cable if it had been equipped with a THM350 (mines a 3 on the tree). That's the same size opening that the TV cable on a 700R4 uses so check and see if yours has it too, if it does then you should be good.

Re: Anybody do a Integrated Head Straight Six with 700R4
I'm looking to go that way also. I have an 80 model with the 2v carb. By checking the carb numbers my 1980 california emissions carb is the same as the 1985 Federal emissions that had the 700R4. So I think I will be in good shape when the time comes.
I have the tranny, crossmember and driveshaft out of an 83 or 84 I think. Just need to kit the tranny with all my spare time and my wifes money lol |

I built a 700r4 with a reverse manual valvebody that didn't need the tv cable anymore, but you'd be back to manually shifting again... Just no clutch

Save the 2004r for the bmx and compitition poeple. Those trans will hold more than a 700r4 but in al factory trim don't hold as well. Like stated above make sure the tv cable works and use a cable corrector if need be

Re: Anybody do a Integrated Head Straight Six with 700R4
That's the real tough part here. I'm sure all the catalogs will have a TV corrector to just fit perfectly on a six cylinder
I've noticed that manufactures have added over drive transmissions which improves fuel mileage. But years ago simply torque an a high ratio rear end did the same trick. But now a day's you need 300 + hp just to get onto the freeways, and nitros to change lanes to catch your favorite off ramp |
