swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
I switched over to the OPP window and added power. The power motor works fine. (when running it off a battery charger)
I bought new switched and can't for the life of me figure out how to wire them. this is the back of the driver side: (the front is the normal two button square chrome switch) let's call them 1-4 on top (left to right) 5 bottom left and 6 bottom right.. Any one know hoe to wire this? Number 3 is a little larger and a little longer. I think this is positive. I assume the other go to the two wires going to the power motor and some have to be negative. just not sure what goes where. I also have the passenger door to do. the button looks a little different. I'll post a picture of that one also. or maybe if some one can help with this side the other will make sense... I've Googled the holly hell out of this, no luck....

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
There's a diagram in this thread; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=333914
It's for a Burb but the front windows should wire the same. Good Luck

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
the first pin is a brown wire going to the drivers motor the 2nd is blue wire also going to the motor the 3rd pin is a brown wire that goes across the cab sending power to the 2nd pin of the passenger switch. the fourth pin is a blue/wht wire that goes across the cap to the 1st pin of the pass. switch. the other two i believe are power and ground. then some where in between there is a relay in there. i think its a lot easier if you find the two door harnesses and the cap harnes

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
I dont think the link posted is the correct .
There is no relay for the power windows. There is a relay for the power locks. *This is how I remember the wiring, I will have to verify it is correct* EDIT: I just looked at the diagram attached that I found at 73-87chevytrucks.com Pin 5 is power pin 6 is ground pins 1 and 2 are the passenger window motor pins 3 and 4 are driver window motor The bottom two pins should be power and ground. Two upper pins one side go to the drivers window and two pins on the other side go to the passenger switch then on to the motor. You will need power and ground on the passenger side also. So you need a power and ground to the drivers door switches and hook the drivers window motor to 2 upper pins on one side of the switch. You can run a power and ground from the drivers switch to the passenger switch along with 2 wire from the other 2 upper pins. So you will have 4 wires running from the drivers door to the passenger door. Pushing the switch up sends power on one pin to the motor and ground on the other, when the switch is pressed down it reverses the polarity on the wires which makes the window go the opposite direction. So let's say pin 1 and 2 go to the drivers window motor, pin 5 is power, and pin 6 is ground. Push the switch one way, pin 1 is power and pin 2 is ground, the window goes up. Push the switch the other way, pin 1 is ground and pin 2 is power, the window goes down. If after you hook up the switch the window goes backwards of the direction pushed, just reverse the motor pins on the switch.

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
OK.... so I thought I was all set...
I wired like we talked about above, did the drivers side first... worked great.. then did the pass side, blew a fuse.. unplugged the divers side and the pass side works great. I've flip flopped the wires to the pass window motor ever way. every time if both sides are connected the fuse pops... I'm at a loss... any ideas?

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
So does the fuse blow when you plug in the passenger side?
Or does it blow when you try to use the passenger window? You have the power and ground on the same terminals on both switches? Like positive on the right and negative on the left on both drivers and passengers? What size fuse are you using? Posted via Mobile Device

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
It pops when I hit either driver or pass button.
Let me check my power hook ups again... I've popped a 10, 15, and 25amp fuse.. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
i swapped the pos /neg on the pass switch and it popped the fuse the second I plugged the window motor in.
maybe I have the pass switch wired wrong? it has 5 pins. two to the motor. the other three, one has pos. and I have the other two ran to the same neg. (if i switch this so one neg. and two power it pops when I plug in the motor) I have the two wires from the drivers side tapped into the motor wires. if the fuse pops when I try and plug in the motor wire from the drivers door something is wrong right? there shouldn't be current running through those wires unless the switch is up or down? if the wire was grounding out some where both buttons shouldn't work if not tied together... one should pop the fuse... holly crap... I'm starting to think cranks are pretty cool...

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
lol
don't get discouraged now! ok I studied the diagram..... the passenger switch has three terminals on the top and 2 on the bottom with the top left by its self so starting at the top left (1) (2) (3) then on the bottom left, no terminal under (1), (4) (5) like this (the @'s are the terminals and the dashes are just place holders, the forum wouldn't keep the right alignment with just spaces): (1) @-----(2) @-----(3) @ -----------(4) @-----(5) @ There isn't a ground running to the passenger switch. The 2 wires coming from the drivers switch for the passenger window are connected to (1) and (5) the passenger motor wires connect to (2) and (4) and power connects to (3) the passenger switch gets the ground through the drivers switch. That is why you are popping fuses, with it wired like I said first you get power straight to ground when you push the switch. I'm sorry i didn't catch that the first go-round.

Lol
No problem at all. I deal with electricity, controls, and diagrams daily for work. I do rather enjoy it

Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
I'm getting closer... lol
wired it up and the motor wouldn't move using either switch.. I could hear it click.. but no movement.. my switch is set up a little different than what you posted.. mine is: (1) @-----(2) @-----(3) @ (4) @-----(5) @ ---------- with the button on the other side running up<--------------->down (right to left) here is a picture, I had heat shrink around each post to make sure nothing was touching.. i cut it off to take a picture.. Re: swap to pwer windows, need help wiring switch
haha!
Yeah we were looking at different things. you were looking at the back of the switch and I was looking at the front of the plug. LOL glad its working! I think you can buy the plugs to fit these switches at your local auto parts store, if not there, then your local junk yard.
