Exclamation Sreeching Noise help.

I've had this problem since I started driving the truck. When the heater is on "high" (the low motor is unplugged because it makes noise) and I accelerate my engine makes a loud screeching noise for a second or until I get off the gas. As soon as I turn the heater off it stops doing it.

Today, while driving back in the pouring rail (without the heater on) I hit a couple of water puddles. As soon as I hit them I bogged down a little (like all cars) but the engine made the same screeching noise.

I have all new belts and they are all tight so I'm kinda stumped on what it could be. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Might be your alternator under a heavy load and the belt is screeching. Even though the belt is tight it could still do it.

Driving home I had been wondering if it was the alternator but I dismissed the idea because I figured it put the same load on the engine all the time but only changed the power output.

I have a new alternator w/ chrome fan on it that I took off my moms 78 trans am to put a full chrome one on that I could install. No idea how old the one on it is...but knowing it sat in a field for years means it's probably old.

Thanks!

Re: Sreeching Noise help.

Well guys it was the alternator. Visited my grandparents this morning and guess what went out on the way there? The alternator. Didn't notice any problems but as soon as I tried to leave I was completely dead. Starter wouldn't even turn over. Got a jump and got home on battery charge. Pulled the new one of my moms trans am and got it installed.

The old one was in really bad shape. Gunk was everywhere and I think a bearing or something was out because you could hear a metal scraping noise when you turned the alternator.
