1 Ton Short Beds ?
I have a 1977 Silverado 20. The man I got it from said that the truck was ordered from the factory to be a 1 ton short bed step side Silverado. So the factory cut the frame, shortened it, and put a Stepside Bed on it. It still has the 2 Driveshafts with the Carrier bearing. I paid $400 and an Edelbrock Performer RPM cam for the truck without the 454 Big Block or the TH400 Transmission. I built a 1972 400 SBC 4 bolt main with Edelbrock Performer RPM Aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake, Keith Black Flattop pistons, Edelbrock Performer RPM cam, and a Holley AED 750 Double Pumper manual secondary with no choke Carb. But does ANYBODY have any Short bed 3/4 or 1 tons? [IMG][/IMG]

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
I'm not certain, but that story sounds really far fetched to me. If GM were going to build a 1 ton shorty, they would have tooled up to build a frame for it, not cut a long bed frame. I don't think a dealer would shorten a frame either...
AFAIK, the 3/4 and 1 ton squares were all long beds. Sounds like someone shortened it after it was new. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
Sorry sir but the P/O was full of bull. The factory never built a 73-87 C20 or C30 in a SWB.

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
I know GM never built SWB 3/4t or 1t trucks because In '77 I went in and tried to order a short bed Stepside K/20 or K/30 and they acted like I was nuts. The salesman ask,"What would you want a truck like that for?" I think he was upset because he thought he had a sale. I'm sure if it was possible he would have made it happen.
One thing's for sure, the factory doesn't cut frames. And even if it was ordered to be a 1 ton it would be a Silverado 30. Sounds like that BSer didn't get his BS straight.

No there never was a truck like that from GM, Maybe it was taken to a conversion company and modifyed if the first owner wanted a truck like that or a PO some were down the line cut it him self and built it. What ever the story is I like the look! Please post more pictures!

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
Thanks for all the replies! I'll take more pictures as I go. I plan on 4 linking the rear-end soon. That stack of leaf springs has NO give what so ever. I just don't want to mess up the ride height in the back, because I don't want to have to lower the front. Plus I like the stocky stance. It's the 15X10 8 Lugs that make it look so good. Apparently nobody can find 15" 8 lugs that can fit over the brake rotors. I guess I got really lucky ! I took my bed off to fix my body lines, And there was half ass bushings on there, so i built my own out of polymer that I had around the shop. But heres a couple shots without the bed on to give you an idea of how she looks back there!

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
Nope. Didn't happen.
I normally never say never, but in this case I'll make an exception. K

Re: 1 Ton Short Beds ?
Okay, I'll take a picture of the cut later today. I took the bench seat out yesterday and put in 2 bucket seats. I'll post more pictures tonight. And does anybody have any opinions on tires and rims for my truck? I've been looking for a nice 8 lug rim that i could put a fat tire on, and I just can't put my finger on one.
