steering box swap

i recently gained possession of a 1984 k10 with a 305 and 700r4. somewhere down the line a previous owner has replaced the PS pump with a non-metric pump and spliced the lines so the fittings on gear box could be used i suppose but who knows why???? my question is instead of putting all new brackets and new pump on will a steering box from an older model fit my frame then i could just buy lines as a whole unit for this pump? i wouldnt ask but i have tried flaring the ends(thats where the genius decided to splice ) of the hard lines but when you turn the wheel really hard the splices pop off...imagine that???
BTW 1st post here hope to gain some knowledge along the way!!

Re: steering box swap

I think 78 was the changeover year from the flare to the o ring.
