Automatic trans shift linkage kit
Hello,
New guy here. I recently bought a '70 Longhorn. It has a TH400 trans in it. I'm relatively certain that the shifting linkage is just about totally shot. As of yet, I haven't taken it all out yet too see exactly what part or parts are worn out. Primarily because I still need to drive it on occasion. When I do tear it apart, I'd like to replace everything at once, whether it's wore out or not. I've done some investigation on the internet for a kit, and all I've been able to turn up is one that's on eBay (item # 380412058510) that is sold by an outfit in California called "Classic Performance Products" in Anaheim,Ca. Has anybody out there replaced their shift linkage with this particular kit? If so, to what degree of success or failure? Does anybody know of any other complete (every part/piece to make it new)shift linkage kits that they have installed with 100% success? Please advise. Thanks guys........ Doug |

Kugel Komponents is the manufacturer of the kit you have listed above. I have used it and it works very well.

Re: Automatic trans shift linkage kit
Thank you for that information. In the item description written by CPP, it mentions having to "BEND" the linkage rod in order to get the "perfect angle". It seems to me, that if this is a replacement kit, the linkage rod would already be "bent to the perfect angle". When you put this kit in truck, did you bend the rod to the same shape as the rod you were replacing......or what?
Thanks again, Doug |

Re: Automatic trans shift linkage kit
I do not recall having to bend the rod to install it. It is designed to be used with several different transmissions. I never expect anything aftermarket to just bolt right up. You very well may have to bend it to fit your application. I had no problem installing mine....and if I can do it, a monkey can do it
Lokar also makes this kit, I have compared them and they are the same thing.

Re: Automatic trans shift linkage kit
Thanks again LEDDZEPP. I taked to "Jeff" at Kugel, nice guy, good information. He said the only reason that he could think of, that the rod might have to bent, is if there happens to some obstruction between the trans and the column. I suspect that is likely not the case. As I mentioned before, I haven't even looked at it yet. But, I don't think GM's engineers would have planted anything in path of the linkage rod. Here's hoping! The kit is on the way.
BTW......buying directly from Kugel, is about $10.00 cheaper than buying it from CPP on flEaBay. Plus, if you call Kugel, they'll ship it via USPS, and at least in my case, I live in WA. state, it'll get here faster & cheaper than UPS Ground. Doug |

Re: Automatic trans shift linkage kit
Yes, you do have to put a slight bend in it, if I had a picture of mine handy it would make sense why. Essentially your column is a foot to the left of your trans and needs a slight bend in the rod about 4-6" up from your trans, to start aiming towards your column. It will make sense when you get one, and if you have two hands and a knee, you have the right tools to do it
