INTAKE BOLTS ALL TIGHT? TORQUED TO SPECS?
That's the first thing I'd check.
Check for coolant in the oil pan too.

Re: anyone know were yo buy dynamite !

Did you actually see water coming out the valve cover or intake manifold?

The water neck, especially cheap chrome ones, are prone to leakage.

I was gonna ask the same thing. Sounds like an intake gasket maybe as well. Defiantly make sure you have no coolant in your oil as well.

Re: anyone know were yo buy dynamite !

If it's comng out of the valve cover you have real problems But it's more than likely leaking around the rear water passage at the intake and head. Gonna need some intake gaskets.
Do you have a aluminum intake?

Re: anyone know were yo buy dynamite !

Distributor has to come out, and coolant drained, in order to pull the intake manifold.

Re: anyone know were yo buy dynamite !

Check the oil. Check overall exterior condition, blown seals, holes, mouse nest in the intake.
Make sure you can rotate the engine with a breaker bar, (not seized up). Pull a valve cover, look for heavy sludge, parts laying where they shouldn't, frogs, etc. Pull a few spark plugs and have a look at them.
How its stored can also tell you a lot. If it's in the corner of the garage wrapped in plastic is a good sign. Behind the shed, under a couple junk fenders and a blown trans, not good.

sbc will bolt up to your tbh350

Re: anyone know were yo buy dynamite !

Hopefully your intake isn't warped or cracked.

What's you budget for a new plant? Jegs.com and Summit have the best deals on a 4-bolt Goodwrench crate for around $1500 before shipping. No core necessary.

You can try the local Yellow Pages for a machine shop and get quotes for a long block, or one of the big box national parts retailers like Advance or O'Reilly's, or even AutoZone if you want to take that chance. My area they list for $999 less core, taxes, freight, etc. When you price just the kit with pistons, rings, etc. that alone will set you back about $600.

If you are crafty and know how to do a rebuild yourself you can save by relying on a machine shop to hot tank the iron, press your connecting rods and rebuild the heads. Even after that's said and done you may have spent more than what an assembled long block costs out of the box.

The problem with a used engine bought from a neighbor or friend you get no guarantees, a salvage yard gives you between 90 days and 6 months. Most independent rebuilders will give you 12 months/12K miles minimum.

It's really up to you, as long as you don't mind tearing it down again if it craps out on you. Whatever you decide, good luck.
