New member (kinda) with a fresh ride
OK, so I'm not a new member to the 67 to 72 site, but new to this 99-06 forum. I picked up a new truck a couple of weeks ago. Wanted to share a picture of my new 06 more door. I'm really liking it! I wish I could say I am responsible for the look, but I bought it as it is. Nothin left for me to do, except I'm thinking about changing from these 22's & 24's, to some 20's & 22's. It's kinda touchy getting in & out of my driveway. The last pic includes my sons 68 we did a few years ago. (wish he would wash it more often)

NICE truck.
I have a white '06 crew cab also,... but not near as cool as yours! Do you know the drop specs?

hey Keith, I guess we both have good tastes. the PO stated it's a 4/7 drop. The rear is a flip kit with bolt in type C notch, & air assist bags. I did notice where the drive shaft has signs of touching a cross member on occasion. I gotta do a little trimming of the cross member before I do any towing.

My next question was going to be about the driveshaft. I've had a McGaughy's 4/6 drop kit in a box for over a year. Alot of people that drop the rear of the crew cabs over a 6" drop,... swap out the driveshaft to a 2-piece version from an extended cab truck. I was wondering if that was really neccessary? My other issue was finding a set of wheels with enough backspacing to tuck completely inside the fenders. Even the stock GM 20's only have a 31MM offset. If you ever have your wheels off,... could you measure the backspacing? Or do they tuck enough to keep from rubbing? My stock crew cab in the garage,...

Re: New member (kinda) with a fresh ride
Sweet truck Keith. I don't think going to a 2 piece shaft is not needed.. I think if I trim about 1/4" from the cross member is all I'll need. I'm kinda bored today, I think I'll go work over the cross member, & I'll get a wheel measurement for ya. The front & rear fender lips have been reworked to clear the tires but I know the rears could go in at least an inch with plenty of clearance, compared to what I have on there now. I think I can fit a 305 45 22 on the rear with the right back spacing, based on what I see now. Curent tire is a 295 35 24. I'll post some more info & pics of what trimmin I do when I'm done
Larry

Re: New member (kinda) with a fresh ride
Thanks.
I want a 20" wheel that will tuck with no fender mods. I think the only choice for me is to order custom offest wheels,... which is usually big money.

Re: New member (kinda) with a fresh ride
Well I couldn't get the pictures to upload, but here's the backspacing you requested Keith. This will give you a base line to start with
24x10" wheel with 6" backspacing. tire is a Sumitomo, 295x35, overall height is 31 3/8", overall width is 11.35" I have 2" clearance on the back side, so I think a 20x10 with 6.5 spacing would allow a 295x40x20. Bad part is, I think the 6.5" backspacing is a custom order. Was when I purchased them for my 51 But.. the 295x40x20 is 1" shorter, so a 6" backspacing might work.
