L6 A/C question

What in your opinion would be the best compressor to have mounted on an inline 292 for A/C? I looking for something heavy duty but not over load engine. Does the compressor dictate what refrigerant you have to use or is it the model of the A/C, mine is an afertmarket mid 60's type.

No, the compressor does not dictate what type of refrigerant the system has. You will want to clean out the system you have of all oil, take the evap out and wash it with an AC solvent , as well as the lines and condensor. Get a small compressor from a late model vehicle that runs on 134A and use it, just make sure it is for the same size vehicle, IE , late model pickup and not a toyota.

Re: L6 A/C question

Yes I will be fabricating my brackets, but which compressor is best? I have looked at sanden 508, but don't want to much or to little for application. I guess what I'm looking for is the most efficeint compressor.

Re: L6 A/C question

I don't really know too much about AC systems, but as a parts guy, I know you can go to your favorite parts store and look through their catalog, by compressor type/brand. If you want sanden, look at that section. Then you can look at dimensions, mounting options, whether it takes a manifold to hook up to it, or individual fittings. I don't think you'll have a problem with any compressor, it might have more to do with the size of the condenser and evaporator core.
