new member new(to me) 68 C20

Hi all....

ive been lurking around pretty hard since I decided that my next project would be a classic chevy.....

my name is (obviously) scott and I live in Reading PA....

drive truck local for a living ...

44 years old.. (I'm a 68 model...same as my new truck)

I like romantic evenings by the fire....(no wait...wrong forum!)

other hobbies include classic motorcycles (I have a 75 sportster and a 66 BSA) and restoring old tube radios

I also have a ham radio license (call sign W3ODD) although I havent been active in awhile..

ok...onto the C20

350/4 speed combo ......yes it is a 350 with a block casting number of 3970014

some ridiculous rear gears...1st is useless and at 60 she's SCREAMING!

plans are to make it reliable mechanically (its pretty close...) and safe (brakes need a bit of attention)

rebuild the front end.....new poly bushings everywhere....ditch the painted step bumper for a chrome one (probably not a step tho)

new window regulators (drivers side slips a little)

window felts etc

ditch that damn "slider" in the back for a solid glass window

then cosmetics...I have a pile of NEW panels for it (inner and outer rockers, lower door skins etc)

mild drop....any good way to get the rear down beyond the 2" coils I've found?

redo the wood bed floor....

paint (I'm digging the orange ones I'm seeing)

although nothing very fancy because I'll still probably use it as a truck at least occasionally...

ok ok ok I KNOW you guys are waiting for pics.....

Welcome aboard. Having something running/driving to start with is a huge step. Sounds like you know what you want to do with it also. You are already farther along than some...

Re: new member new(to me) 68 C20

Welcome! I just picked up a 68 C20 last week. I don't have as much cancer on the doors, but my grill isn't nearly as clean as yours. I'm keeping the blue, I think. Good looking truck!

Here's mine.

Re: new member new(to me) 68 C20

Nice C/20!!!
I'd keep the stance the way it is...but that's just me...
You can't go wrong with orange. I'd do the front surround in white...that would look slick.
Sounds like you've got 4.56 gears. She's a screamer.

aboard! Lots of good info on here and some nice guys and gals too. I like your truck. Looks a little like my blue '67.

Unless you like a stiff ride you may want to re-think the poly bushings. Some people that have installed them have removed them and went back to rubber. They transfer a lot of vibration to the sheetmetal. The rubber bushings are a little more expensive but worth it.

Just a suggestion.

Re: new member new(to me) 68 C20

Welcome. 68 C20 here as well.
IIRC, my HO52 rear end was a 4.57 gearset. I've since gone to a Dana 60 with a 3.54.

Keep the pics coming.
