Need Opinions Only...

5 Days left.

I recently added bucket seats to my truck. Got rid off the bouncy, worn bench which I had to rip out half the home carpet the PO put in. In the process I took out the saggy, dirty headliner and the carpeting behing the seat.

Problem: The whole inside is torn apart now. No headliner, no sunvisors, half the carpet is ripped out and the carpet/liner behind my seats is gone too so its all metal. Ive got a quote for the healiner and carpet/liner behind the seats from a local upholstery shop...the price is including insulation and vinyl liners. Came out to $260 which is a great deal.

Solutions: Throw the liners back on with insulations and liner for $260 or clean it all up and paint it and invest $180 into a brand new carpet...so far its 4-1 for painting the headliner, new visors and painting behind the seats because most people love the lines of our truck on the headliner.

I need an opinion from fellow C10 lovers. Paint or fabric...???

I wish my stepside had carpet and a headliner, instead I am sitting in a tin can with a rubber mat.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

Well I might just be the only one here but I would paint it all. My truck had all that that crap in it. First thing to come out. I like a truck, not a car. I did put a new carpet in and something behind the seat from the window down but that's it. I like steel! I like seeing body lines for what they are not covered up by plastic. I wish they had steel door panels like the 67-72 had. Just me though. That's what makes the world go round. Bottom line is do what you like and want.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

I'm with "Liftlawssuck" leave it metal, that what trucks are, TRUCKS. Mine has the rubber mats, easy to clean and last along time. If I get mud inside, just take the hose and wash it out. The only cloth inside the truck is the seat cover, but that's just me, you do what you like, it's your truck.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

I say leave it metal.
paint it the color you want

Mine just has the rubber floor liner, and sun visors. everything else-gold color metal

Lot less worry, no fabrics to clean, just use car wax once a year

Re: Need Opinions Only...

Changed mine over to the silverado package. Got rid of my tin can. My goal is to make it nice enough that if you sat in it it would make a BMW look cheap and give an Aston Martin a run for its money.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

If you're planning on swapping all the plastic trim that later models came w/then do the fabric on the headliner & back cab wall.
No other cab trim = no headliner or cab wall stuff = early trucks.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

My preference is to leave it metal. I agree with "liftlawssuck". To me the metal forming and joining used in these trucks should be left open to appreciate.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

What you can do is leave out the headliner board and have just metal and the bordering trim. You can make it as custom as you want or baren as a desert. All I know for sure I that every time a friend or person sit in my truck they see all the work in the interior and go wow we're did you get this? I just say its custom by me

Re: Need Opinions Only...

I say leave the headliner out. My scottsdale doesn't have one, and I think that's what makes it cool. Back when trucks were trucks and nothing more

Re: Need Opinions Only...

must say it's a lot quieter with the roof liner, and other insides on, in the jimmy
driving the 79 I don't hear as much road noise etc as the 78
I've just removed the liner and trim in the 79 to clean it
and it's goin back in for sure, but not gona put one in the 78
I'd replace it but maybe just get it painted anyway....mine was only primer

Re: Need Opinions Only...

I'd say metal roof for sure. Maybe fabric behind the seat's to clean it up. But only because of the bucket's.

Re: Need Opinions Only...

I donīt have a head liner in mine and would like to leave it that way, but I might go for a liner since I have a nasty dent in my roof on the inside. Everything else is geting sound proofed and covered. Itīs nice with a quiet cab.
