i was on ebay looking for a dash bezel for my square, and came across one that looks like the picture below. it was going for over $100. why is this one worth so much more than the other ones?(brushed, black, woodgrain)

Re: dash bezel

Probably because it's not a reproduction? I paid $125 for my brushed aluminum one. I had the woodgrain in my truck and I wish it was in good shape because I could have gotten some serious $$ for it probably.

Re: dash bezel

Went back to the salvage-yard today, and took pics of the 2 dash bezels that i had found a few days a go. the first one is the same as the one on ebay, but the second one is a darker woodgain and is none AC.

Yeah, the woodgrain pattern changed about 3 times during the 73-77 year range before the brushed aluminum came along in 78.

Also notice how the headlight and wiper switch holes are a little different in the two bezels you pictured.

I believe the non-AC bezel you have pictured is from a 73/74 ... has a narrower wiper switch hole and raised area around the headlight switch hole.

The AC bezel you have pictured (and the ebay one) are probably from 75/76 ... has a wider wiper switch hole and larger headlight switch hole.

I think the 77 bezel is the same style as 75/76 but the woodgrain pattern changed again. Here's what the original woodgrain in dad's 77 looks like:

As far as value goes, I'm sure the condition has a lot of influence on the price. Like 88Jimmy4x4 said, the woodgrain overlay is thin and easily cracked. The bright "chrome" finish around the gauge openings also has a tendency to get faded and worn off. And with all the different styles and variations, it's probably safe to say that folks doing original style restorations will be willing to spend more for a bezel that's "correct" for their particular year/model truck.

Re: dash bezel

I know LMC gets $159 & up for the plain-jane black ones.

I don't believe they make a reproduction woodgrain dash panel.
There for they're more valuable
