Help. Please

ok i just got my truck back from the shop from them tuning the carb replacing fuel filter and thermostat and now when you hit the gas from idle it has a delay which is worse now than it was. its better on gas but has a huge throttle delay. i dont know whats wrong with it but this truck has given me more trouble than its worth.

Re: Help. Please

if you paid someone to make it right, then you need to take it back to them and have them fix it.

Re: Help. Please

Sounds like you were running rich before and the guy tuned it. Once he leaned it out it caused your stumble to get worse. The reason you have an off idle stumble is the air fuel ratio lean out when the throttle opens. So you need a shot of gas to compensate such as the accelerator pump. Sounds like your accelerator pump needs to be tuned to compensate better. If it doesn't fix the issue then some more tuning needs to be done to the transition circuit

Re: Help. Please

Can't fix if we don't know the type of carb or setup.

Re: Help. Please

250 inline 6 with a monojet carb? Sounds like the accelerator pump is done....
Pickup an overhaul kit (comes with an accelerator pump) and overhaul the carb. Should cost you about 35 bucks....easy job. That is..........if the shop doesn't stand behind their work. Get with them first since you already shelled out some cash to them. If they're a reputable place, they'll make it right.

Got 256,000 original miles on my '78 250. Great 'ol engines....

Re: Help. Please

Like previously stated, if you brought it to them for a carb tune up and it has not fixed the hesitation, then bring it back. Honestly if it was in the shop where I work it, it would have never left it it hesitated on accel from idle like that. Sounds like the accelerator pump is either on the wrong setting, or is pooched.
