Custom fabbed valves covers for cheap

So around Christmas advance auto parts Was having free shipping on orders over $100 and 15 dollars off orders with their Christmas special promo code.
So I decided to pull the trigger on a set of these- http://m.advanceautoparts.com/mt/sho...110944&ci_sku=

I got them in the mail about 5 days later via fed-ex ( bastards still beat up my packages) and pulled them out and this is how they looked[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
I was kinda peeved cause everywhere they are described as natural finish. Horrible quality powder coating. My plan revolves around having natural finish aluminum to Sand and polish So I bought some talstrip and took them to an actual natural finish [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG] I proceeded to buy 400, 800,1000,and two thousand grit wet dry sandpaper and sanding in 90 degrees of each grit step. It took me a while to find a good combo to get a mirror finish but I found that once I got mothers polish it made all the difference. I used a old whit cotton shirt for the polishing and another for the buffing [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

I then masked off the polished part and painted the sides with some engine enamel satin black and topped it off with a couple of coats of engine enamel clear. Btw these are duplicolor paints and work real well for me. [IMG][/IMG]

I the. Pinstriped by hand And let them dry out and installed and enjoyed my work well done

On a side note. If you wondering how I got my wire looms to mount still I drilled the side of the covers an bolted them to it with star washers and a dab of ultra grey. Never leaks on anything I do it to. Also here is a before pic to show what spurred the change [IMG][/IMG]

And if it's not to much to ask from a moderator. Maybe you can pretty please fix my title to " fabbed" and not "dabbed" lol thanks

Thanks very much, my old ones were chrome original hand me downs that my brother exploded his battery on. The old ones I bead blasted and rustoleum black and clear. After a while oil and heat destroyed the paint and I decided on the new ones. Needless to say. I think it's better

Well the before ones were hazy and not nice anymore. But I'm going to redo them and off them to a lucky buyer on the forum as soon as I pay up for a membership

Re: Custom fabbed valves covers for cheap

Sorry,,I'm a NOOB when it comes to swapping valve covers, but I've noticed that when you swap from the stock ones, the aftermarket ones never really have an "oil fill" cap, so where do you pour the oil in from? Im sorry,,but I've always wondered this.

Re: Custom fabbed valves covers for cheap

Pull the filter off the valve cover (the chrome moroso piece in insidious' pics), fill using a funnel then just pop the filter back on.

Re: Custom fabbed valves covers for cheap

Usually most aftermarket valve covers have fill spots on both covers
