Difference in AD Chevy and AD GMC Cab
I have a 1949 Chevy 3100 with a pretty rough cab. I have found a GMC with a much better cab. Are they the same except for the grill and some trim? Also, will the fenders interchange?
Any help will be appreciated. Jim |

Thanks. Is that the only difference?

Re: Difference in AD Chevy and AD GMC Cab
The GMC and Chevys of 55-59 each have an entirely different dash. the AD trucks may be similar. The cabs should interchange regardless of dash differences

Ad cabs are the same from 47-53. 54 and up they changed the dash.

Re: Difference in AD Chevy and AD GMC Cab
I'm not sure of the year change, but the earliest cabs in the 47-53 group had a driver side cowl vent door, and beside the dash change in 54, they also went to one piece windshields.

Re: Difference in AD Chevy and AD GMC Cab
The cabs them selves will swap without a problem. There is some difference in the trim and the dash but I think you can easily change out the trim to have Chevy trim. The Gauges are a bit different as the GMC has a higher reading oil pressure gauge.
I'm pretty sure that the 47/53 fenders will interchange except that some models of GMC's have a park light below the headlight. This may just take filing in the holes or leaving the park lights in place. The radiator supports are quite a bit different and won't interchange nor will the hood latch panels. |

Re: Difference in AD Chevy and AD GMC Cab
Inner fenders are also different, my 50 chevy has a passenger side door lock only, my 3 gmc cabs are drivers only locks. Not sure if it was an option or what. Big trucks have the same cab as the 1/2 tons except the cab overs. There is a difference in the filler rubber between the cab and running boards between years also.

47 and 48 also had a bed mounted fuel tank, 47 has a different parking brake
