Motor Color

I have been trying to figure out what color to paint my motor and I need some help. I plan to paint the truck a dark green. Any suggestions?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Re: Motor Color

I'm going to go against the grain here and say paint it body color. I've seen enough chevy orange engines to last me a lifetime.

I agree. Mine will be same color as body, when hood is open it just seems to flow to me.

Re: Motor Color

body color. you will need to get some high temp paint mixed.
do a little prep on it too. grind some of the casting marks out.

ditto,
easy to touch up, hides leaks and black goes with just about anything.

But if your going for a nice custom look, body color looks very nice if the block has been smoothed

Re: Motor Color

O-R-A-N-G-E!!!

or gray...

Didn't some of the 327s come in gray in 66? (no, wait, I mean 283s - and 327s were orange? My head hurts) Also thought I've seen some 283s in blue (or gray?) from the factory?? My 66 has an orange 283, but it was rebuilt at some point before I got my mitts on it, so who knows. I know when I rebuild it, it'll still be orange when I'm done. Or gray... (I am planning an old vette dual quad setup with vette finned vc's and I thought the gray paint might be something a little different with that setup. Like you said, decisions, decisions....

Black engines always look greasy and grubby to me. I've never liked the black on them since I first saw one black.

I'd go with the Chevrolet Orange or the Gray. I'm going to paint the 292 going into the 48 Gray so at first glance people looking under the hood on the rare occasions that it's open in public will think it is closer to what the truck came with rather than a dressed out 68 292.

That must be an age thing or something. I've always known engines to be black and I've always thought colored engines looked really weird.
