how do you jack up the front?

just wondering the correct or different ways to raise the front with a floor jack and then leaving it on jack stands.i finally got some and a floor jack after years of bottle jacks and wood blocks.

Re: how do you jack up the front?

That all depends on the tonnage of your floor jack, on mine I just put the floor jack in the center of the front cross member and jack it up until both tires clear, then I put the jack stands at both ends of the crossmember and lower the truck on to the jack stands.

Re: how do you jack up the front?

Mine is so low (and I haven't sprung for a low profile jack), so I have to lift one frame rail, set a stand under it, then get a floor jack under the crossmember. Then I can lift the whole front and put stands on both sides.

Re: how do you jack up the front?

I lift mine using the cross member and put the jack stands under the lower control arm cross shafts.

Re: how do you jack up the front?

i lift mine from middle cross member too, but I place jack stands under frame rails on each side under door area...very sturdy. Same for back, jack under diff and stands on frame rail just further back.

This. the frame torque boxes are at this point, strongest place to put the stands.

Re: how do you jack up the front?

First I take the foot off the jack, then I yell for my wife till she comes outside to see if the truck fell on me, when she gets outside I get her to push the jack under the crossmember while I lift the truck by the front bumper

This is where I place my stands also, I then throw the tires and wheels I take off under the vehicle - this saved my life one time when the car fell off the stands while I was under it, yes I was really skinny!

Re: how do you jack up the front?

my jack fit under rear pumpkin o.k.but,the front is lower.i used to jack up one side then wood blocks under the frame.now,i'm high tech with floorjack and stands.i'd use a solid old fir 8x8' blocking....as eyegore said, this is no joke .alot of people have died from getting their chest crushed.whatever you do.do it safe.

Glad we both can laugh about it. Then there is the idiots that use masonary blocks to hold up a truck, I mean they stand it on end. They have never seen a block crumble.
