New here - Quick question about rearend
Hi guys, I've been lurking around these boards for quite sometime now, loads of awesome trucks and heaps of great information here. So I thought it was about time to start an account since I am starting to make a little progress on my truck. It's a 79 SWB 2wd Scottsdale with a 454 with some mods which I will give more detail in a different post.
Anyways, mainly what I had a question about was; I have a 89 transam/firebird sitting right next to my truck that is being used for bits and pieces here and there and got to thinking the other day I would take the LCA's and Panhard bar off it and move it to my truck to add a little strength back there. Well, I didn't even think about just swapping the whole rearend. My question is, first, has anyone tackled anything like this before? How much work would be involved in this and would it be worth it? Seems it would be to me, but maybe others can give me some insight. Thanks in advance for any information!! Checkin out - Dustin |

Re: New here - Quick question about rearend
I think the rear end in your truck will be stronger than what's in your 89 firebird. IMHO I would leave it there.

I agree with popsc10. My nephew tried a swap,like that,and it was a disaster!

Re: New here - Quick question about rearend
Ok thank you guys for the replies. Was an idea I had and thought I'd see what others had to say first, glad I did!!! Will stick with what I got for now till I come across a ford 9" then. What about taking the lca's and panhard bar off it and putting over on mine, think I would gain some traction with that and possibly help with wheel hop? I haven't drove the truck yet, but I am estimating my 454 should be somewhere around 380hp and 450+tq so kinda worried its gonna wheel hop and not get traction. Thanks again.

Re: New here - Quick question about rearend
If you want to go thru that much work, just 4 link it and be done with it. The LCA's on the Firebird look like they will be too short...that and I hate to see a 3rd gen get sacrificed. A simple, cheap way to reduce wheel hop without much work would be to slap a pair of traction bars on it.
