Re: what years did genral motors paint there motors blue

76 was the last year of orange in the trucks, so 77 would be the first year of blue. Not sure when it ended but I know that 80 was still blue.

The 454 in my 1976 C30 was orange. The 400's in my 1977 K10 and K30 were both blue.

Over the years with the heat and oil on them, they turn a weird green color.

Re: what years did genral motors paint there motors blue

from the original untouched trucks i own, 77 was the first year for the small block to be blue and then 78 was the first year of the big block to be blue. that went till like 82 I believe then they went black.

88 jimmy, has that motor ever been out of the truck? still have the french locks on it? whats the production date?

Im not the original owner so I cant say anything about it before I owned it. It is a driver side dipstick and yes has the rusty french locks on the exhaust manifolds.

The block has number GM 3970010 on it, not sure about production date.

Re: what years did genral motors paint there motors blue

I have an early production 77 with an orange engine . All the other 77's I have owned have been Corp Blue.
I think it is mostly blue in 1977 as stated above but some of the early production trucks still had the orange leftovers.

This is correct! 1977 was a transition year for our trucks. There are several items that started and many that ended that year. This was also a year of several things changed durung the year. It was had a few one year only options as well.

ive got a summit k1103 cam in the orange truck 350 in my k5 and really woke it up. Something to think about. a k1002 might be a little nicer for a driver.

Mine is red? Like sports car red? And I'm pretty sure it's original paint, what does that mean?
