Alternator mounting?
I would really like to get an electric water pump for my truck, along with an electric fan. Problem is right now the alternator is bolted to the water pump in two places, as I'm assuming is normal. The electric pumps, such as this one:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Proform/778/66225BK/10002/-1 don't have mounting holes for the alternator brackets. How am I supposed to mount the alternator to the engine without using the water pump? Is there a relatively cheap "kit" for this or can I maybe use a different stock part to move the alternator? I want to remove everything belt driven but the alternator and the PS pump, it would be nice if they could use the same v belt.

Re: Alternator mounting?
IMO I would not run a "Proform" electric wate pump on anything on the street.
I have too many friends who refuse to purchase another one due to leaks and motor failures. If they will not hold up on my friends Drag Cars, I can NEVER see them holding up on a street driven vehicle with constant use. If you must buy one , Get this one . Its twice the price but 10 times the quality. http://www.meziere.com/ps-1070-0-WP301S.aspx If you do go that route Good Luck. Desert |

Does anybody know if there is a stock electric water pump I can get at the junk yard from another vehicle that might be more reliable?

But it says "The bracket bolts solid to the head and water pump". I have an old set of heads with no mounting holes, but looking from the picture it doesn't look like it mounts to the head?

Replacing the engine driven fan with a well thought out electric fan setup will give you some bang for your buck when you're traveling over 25-30mph. Even with a thermal clutch the engine driven fan robs of at-speed power. TANSTAAFL though. Electric fans load the alternator when they are running so you still pay for them... just not at higher speeds where the normal airflow keeps the temp down. |
