1971 GMC 2 wd conversion
I am new to this forum and hope you guys can help me on my build. I have a 83 donor for my 4 wd parts but what im wandering about is the leaf hangers and any advice i can get on this build. My truck is equipped with rear leafs already. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1971 GMC 2 wd conversion
Not sure how the best way to combine all the parts would be. On 67-72, the 4x4 hangers are different than the 2x4. They lower the spring which is why 4x4 sits higher than the 2x. 4x4's also have 2 1/2" wide springs while the 2x4 has 2 1/4". Except Longhorns that had 2 1/2" wide leafs as well. I haven't looked at the parts Longhorn that I have in awhile to remember if the hangers are same as 4x4 or not, but I think they are. Longhorn also had 40" spring centers like the 4x4's.

Re: 1971 GMC 2 wd conversion
Lifts blocks and longer ubolts is one way to lift the orig 2wd rear and keep the same spring rate. You may need longer shocks and a longer brake flex hose depending on the lift. You can probably get away with 2.5" and not change shocks and brake hose.
As far as the front I used 72 springs and actually removed one leaf to get the height I wanted. I can send any pic you want on the front as I converted my 67 c10 to a k10 using 69 hangers. |
