Having a bad day

today is not my day to work on my truck.

on the to do list today was put in oil and temp sensors so i could get my dash working again (easy enough right) wrong lol

temp sensor is way smaller then the hole in the t stat housing and needed an adapter (trip to the parts store) so finally got that in.

moved on to oil press sensor. pulled old one (but had to pull the distributor to do so :S ) got it out then went to put the new one it (doesn't fit too big) so off to the parts store got the right one.

came back went to install it.... wont fit because it hits on the intake (at this point I'm not pleased) so i go get a 40 degree elbow, try and screw it in wont work so i go get an extension and an adapter. get back goes together like butter (yay things are starting to go back together!)

so now its time to put the distributor back in (i didn't pull it out just up and slightly out of the way) so I'm re installing it it wont seat back down in so me being the forgetful person that I am I forgot to make sure the oil pump shaft was lined up so got that all figured out and now its all back together and wont fire!

My buddy's coming over to help me look it over but i just wanted to share my day :s

TGIF!

No clue.. I'm sure someone will jump in here with some good ideas.. I would have to assume the distributor didn't make it back in right???

Very likely that distributer needs some tweeking, that is why youre not getting a spark, unloosen the bolt on it and turn it as if you were setting your timing JUST A LITTLE AT A TIME and then try and crank it, you should get a spark and then adjust the timing accordingly. When you pulled it you got everything out of whack, that thing has to be put back EXACTLY the way you removed it or the result will be no spark, at least in my experience.

Re: Having a bad day

Did you,by any chance, pull one of the wires, when you lifted it? It doesn't take much to pull off the feed wire.

Re: Having a bad day

you could pull or lift the distributor cap and make sure that the rotor is turning when you do turn the engine over with the starter. i take it that you still have the stock distributor with the points.

Re: Having a bad day

Are you sure there's no spark. It could just be firing way out of time.
I have an inductive spark tester Lisle 19380 Lisle 19380. They make great gearhead gifts.
You can use a timing light to check for spark the same way. It's just more setup.

Re: Having a bad day

Time to go back and check everything.
The cap has been off;
Is the pickup plug from the base entirely latched onto on the cap?
Is the Pink wire plugged into the BAT slot and not the TACH slot?
Is the carbon button worn down?
Is the rotor burned through the center?
Is the module OK? You can get em tested at a parts store. If it's bad replace the coil cap rotor and module. Module failures are usually from the coil layer shorting internally.

BTW I use the inductive pickup spark tester because I heard that it's possible to screw up the module in the distributor base with the screwdriver method. If it's a tall tale then... Hey. I got a cool tool.

The Distributor has been out of the block/intake manifold. If you have spark and no start re-check the rotor alignment. When #1 actually is at TDC does the rotor point to the #1 plug wire?
It's possible to install it 180 out. The zero mark on the balancer lines up with the pointer twice in 360degrees of cam rotation so you could've set it for #6 TDC not #1. Yes. I've done it.

Re: Having a bad day

I'd take the cap off check the wire ends make sure none frayed ,caught, cut
make sure the plug "plugs" in to the cap, those blades may move off to the side and looking from the top may not see it miss
and if the tac wire grounds it won't fire
