Blowing Smoke Out the PCV Valve Hole
Been trying to get my 66 on the road after sitting for about 10 years or so and I finally got it started last week. I noticed the previous owner had just put some silicone around where the grommet used to be and when I got her started, I noticed quite a bit of smoke and pressure coming out of that hole. What would this indicate? I know the smoke could just be from it sittin a long time and I had added some mystery oil to prime everything but what about the pressure? This is a pic of the truck before I got it but you can see the oil staining on the firewall. Again, the grommet is gone and I'm sure the pcv valve is wasted too. The parts store didn't know which grommet I needed so I'm just going to measure and go back. Thank you.

Re: Blowing Smoke Out the PCV Valve Hole
First off you need a vented oil cap. If smoke & pressure are building up in the crankcase you have excessive blowby. That indicates worn compression rings. Pull the PCV valve from the valve cover & put your finger over the hole with the engine running. You should have a strong suction on it. If you get thge vent system working good & change the oil to some heavy weight oli you will probably get by with it.

Re: Blowing Smoke Out the PCV Valve Hole
The rings were pretty stuck when i first started working on it. Ok, so swap out the cap for a vented one and replace the pcv? Valve, will do. Thanx very much.
