How to pull her apart?

Okay...for you experts this is going to sound weird, and I apologize beforehand! I am ripping into the old girl and don't want to get stupid, because mostly I am like one of those kids that takes a radio apart just to find out how it works.
I am wanting to get the front off so I have excellent access to the engine and pretty much start from scratch...although I haven't rebuilt anything in over 20 years.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get started? I have a few books on "Miss Maybel" but wanted to get your years of experience first.
Thanks for any help you can be! I love this site and decided that I needed to pay the price to make sure it stays up!!!!

Until I get my build on here, my site for now is: http://1970gmctruck.wordpress.com/
