Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

Might be buying a cab today and was just wondering if I need a trailer?

If it fits a shortbed, it should fit a long. Just need to get it in there and a few extra blocks to level it.

Stack some pallets in your bed and make sure it is high enough to clear the ac housing over your bed rail.

Do you care if you damage your bed or the cab? Do you have a way to lift the cab that high and carefully? I'd rent a trailer.

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

Thanks guys for all the options. I think I am going to just play it safe and rent a trailer for the day. My first thought was to go cheap and just get it done quick, but after making the drive today I realized it has a lot of curves and is very steep in some parts. I would hate myself if I ended up damaging my truck. Thanks again for all the help.

It will fit as shown below. Just put some padding on one of the wheel wells if you've got nice paint.

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

ok so I have to ask, with the cab in your bed & you pull up in your driveway... how do you get it out?
Aside from the no brain-er type of answers, like...come-along and a tree. used my backhoe bucket...

how would the average dude living in a track home with a 2 car garage and little trees get a cab out of his bed...

I ask, because I need a cab and I'm thinking about picking one up next week...

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

I hauled my old cab, firewall down, in a 4-1/2 x 9 trailer. I had nothing to lose...

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

The red neck part would have been seeing me get the cab out!

I used a 4 X 4 post through the door openings and my engine crane. I put the end of the arm under the 4 X 4 and picked it up enough to just drive the truck out and then lowered it to the ground. Worked like a charm!

(Sorry, no pics of that)

Talking Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

Oh yeh, you can fit almost a whole other truck into the back of a long bed too if you stack it just right. Hows this for redneck? (insert Sanford and Son theme song here)

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

IMHO--If you are loading/unloading with a standard cherry-picker, try to get a single axle trailer or a real short one.

With dual axle trailers, most hoist legs won't straddle the tires very well, to get the cab centered over the bed.

Now that sounds do-able....! I'll have to measure my engine hoist at max height.

thanks

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

I fit a '72 cab in my S10 short bed hahaha It worked just fine!! I also fit an ENTIRE '54 Chevy truck in the back of my buddys fullsize long bed

If you can lift the stuff high enough sure, but if you've got a trailer then it's easier on the back if lifting by hand.

Re: Can you fit a cab in a long bed truck?

It fit better if you remove the heater box and brake booster. It's not about the weight, it's more about where they get in the way.
