Okay.....got the camera download thing taken care of..

Here's a few pic's of my latest barn find.....
I really like this thing.....Really nice shape....a few options.....and she's a great truck.....
I'm thinkin the feller that spec'd this truck was gonna be the guy driving it...

The serial # is A40005F39518E...
Which translates to a 4000series with an 84" whb and air brakes ...etc....etc,,mine was lengthened by the factory to the required length depending on the spec.
It also has heavy front and rear axles & springs....and the extra wide, 5000 series, front fenders.
I'm dont know if it's a 4000 or a 5000 series, fer sure.

Mines got an eighteen foot OE oak bed with "Rope Rails"....for Agg, or Hay haulers....I'll show pic's later on...
The interior is sweet...very good shape....with duall air rides...(I'm sure he had to look long and hard to get these installed)...He had to have the floorboards dropped under the seat mounts just to keep the head from being crammed into the top once ya got them pumped up....Nice fab-work.

They made some 4000's with the Heavy Front Axel along with the Wider Fenders. I am curious to know what the GVW is. The 84" Inch WB (Wheel Base) cannot be correct. I would say the that 84" was the original CA (Cab to Axel). It sure looks like it was originally a Road Tractor. I am also curious to how you determined that is was "lengthened by the factory".

The truck sure reminds me of the '62 GMC 6500 I used to drive. It is even close to the same color.

BTW, I didn't see where you mentioned it anywhere, but your truck is a '66.

Sweet love the big trucks. I want to build this 66 C-60 that my friend has in a field. Its a 66 Chevy C60 4or5+2 grain body with 10,000, yes thats ten thousand, original miles. With the straight 6, 292 i think. I want to put a 64 GMC 4000 front end on it for 2 reasons, The front end of my buds is really rusty and bashed up from normal farm abuse, And the second reason is that there is a 64 GMC 4000 school bus in a local junkyard with a near perfect front end! (When i first saw it i was sure to get the 2 V6 hood emblems and the GMC 4000 fender emblems because i knew somebody would swipe them the next time i saw it) Unfortunitly the V6 was out of the bus. But i do know where there is a 65 1000 in another junkyard that i have gotten parts of in the past for my old 65. So those are my plans and Dream?

The switch is a front brake limiting valve. It reduces air pressure applied to front brakes when on the "slippery postion". I bet this truck was a short wheel base 2 axle tractor in its earlier life. It was very common for large trucks to be modified when sold to fit the need of the new owner. A power divider differential lock will say "lock" "unlock".

Okay...here we go..
Yer right about em makin a few 4K series w/wide FF & ...etc ...etc.
The GVW tag says 19,500 ....
The rear axle spring-pack is 20,800 lb along with a "Aux Rear Spring " (unspecified capacity) ...But with the DOT maximum weight per 1" of tire width in contact with rd. at 600lbs per....it can weigh....21,600 (heavy permit), or 20,000 lbs..unpermitted on a Fed or most other hi-ways...
And the front's a 9,000 lb axle...although the tires are good fer 10,800 ( I think most scale masters would miss it ).....DOT .....
I think most guys would licence this....(commercially).. for 26,000 lbs...I never will..

It sure is set up as a rd tractor....But with the rear axle having a 5.75:1/7.75:1 ratio....I gotta think it would never make it over about 50 mph....pushing it..But I'm sure it was pulled off the factory lot....late in the year....originally set up as a tractor...and because of the push to sell all the '66's prior to the new model '67's, soon to arrive, it was modified all to hell to fill the spec sheet for this sale. The bottom line is the PO implies that it was ordered and spec'd by her father as part of a larger purchase of GMC rigs fer their farm in Corbett, Or

As far as my theory....what I meant by the factory stretchin the frame....I meant a " Truck Body " fab company....prior to delivery....someone like ABC...or Leggit & Platt.....Powers...or.
It is sometimes a gray area or even a mystery what happens to fleet trucks at the end of the year....or worst yet...the Model change.....just to make it happen.

Here's a couple from the engine bay....
Check out the Copper tank on the Harrisson Radiator....This conventional configuration takes fourty quarts of coolant and like the other Vee-sixes....pumps about 120 gallons per minute at rated rpm....

I hav'nt cleaned her up ....only changed the heater hoses..
But that's fairly unmolsted...

Les, the 5.75/7.75 Rear doesn't sound that bad to me. There is a guy or two over at Stovebolt that could actually figure that out for you. If you tell them the Ratio and Tire Size they can work out the math to figure out a pretty acurate MPH in 5th High.

My '62 6500 with a 478 V-6 and a 5 and 2 would go 62 MPH. They told me it had a governor but I never proved it either way.

Sure would love to take it for a blast, but being 3000 miles away, it's going to be rough. Appreciate the offer anyway!!

Y'all notice that the truck also has the HD "Budd" type wheels. That is a sign of a West Coast truck. Heavy West Coast trucks usually have Budds and Heavy East Coast trucks usually have Spokes. Why that is, I don't really know, but you will notice that with all makes of heavy trucks.
