Question 67 C10 Big Back Window Conversion?

Hi Everyone,

Im currently involved in doing a build with a 1967 Chevy C10. Among the many modifications I want to do to it is a "small-to-big" back window conversion. Ive been searching for a while in the hope that I could find some sort of conversion kit or even a thread on how to do it from scratch but have not been able to find too much. Does anyone have any links, pics or step by step guides on how to complete this modification. Any help with this would be most appreciated.

Thanks guys!

I don't know of a kit, seems it might be easier to swap cabs

Problem is that I already have some work invested in the cab that I got and don't want to have to sacrifice what I have already done. I saw a thread on a 1966 but I'm not sure how well that would transfer to the 67 body style.

There is no "kit" available. Your going to have to switch cabs or replace the back of yours.

check this build by 67mater. He replaced a big window with a small one. Posts #12 and 13 show how he cut it.

I would NOT do it again. The inner panels have different curves, and the two layers make it incredibly time consuming. The small window is hard tou find, so I'd try selling/swapping it, or better yet KEEP IT!!! they are just as drivable and you can focus your time and effort elsewhere.

Parting thoughts, once finished that small window will grow on you...

I appreciate the input. I like the look of the big window more so than that of the smaller one. I was not aware of the rarity of the smaller window. I'll definitely consider a trade of some sort in the near future. I don't want to chop it all up if someone else could use it to their advantage.

Re: 67 C10 Big Back Window Conversion?

Back about 5-6 years ago, this was a popular conversion and there were quite a few members who did this. I don't ever have luck searching for old threads so I'm no help there...but it's out there,I promise. It seems people do all sorts of things others might consider not worth it. I could name quite a few things I feel fit this category that a large amount of guys are doing. But,the vibe here is you do what you do and I do what I do. It's not a bad idea and not out of question at all. There are certainly far more big windows and the small window '67 has a lot of appeal to plenty of truck guys. I know of people swapping tops due to windshield rust and other reasons. The best way is to cut the windshield posts and take all the way back to where the back panel and floor meet. But,often that rear area has rust and I've seen quite a few successful jobs where a cut was made below the rear window area. Heck, people chop tops, shave drip rails, make crew cabs/ext cabs and everybody says,"Hey that's great!". Changing the top is the "legal" way to go about this, too, for those who care.

Re: 67 C10 Big Back Window Conversion?

Harry Bentley Bradley, who designed this body style, said the small back window was his preference for the "limo-like" look that it gave. GM execs wanted the large window. With the compound curves and multiple layers of sheet metal....looks like a seriously involved project.

Small windows are the over preference of those of us who have a preference, but to each, his own.

Re: 67 C10 Big Back Window Conversion?

One of the main attractions to the 67 for me is the small back window. One year only and unique to Chevy. I wouldn't cut it up, just get a big window cab, plenty out there.

Your absolutely right. I think I may try and trade the cab. Thanks

Re: 67 C10 Big Back Window Conversion?

Scratch my prior post! Now that I see it again I realize I got it backwards. I was thinking this was a project to go from big window to small! There have been many to do this for obvious reasons. But I agree it makes no sense to go small to big.Plenty of big windows out there if that's what you want..."Save the small windows!"
