Gas tank strap repair?

I picked up some good Gas tank brackets for my 87 cause they are rotten but the straps are broken off. I think I can get new ones from NAPA bur how do you attach them? The old ones are sandwiched in between then riveted..?

Re: Gas tank strap repair?

Just make sure the fiber insulators are in good shape, too. They go under the straps, and between the saddles, and tank.
Neighbor didn'tthink he needed them, and ended up wearing a hole in his new tank!

Yeah, that's the stuff. Factory came with a tar paper (best way to describe it). I got mine from LMC and it works fine with the new tank. People on here have used many things before though. Doesn't really matter what it's made of just that it does the job right? Common thing I have seen is bicycle inner tubes folded up.

I've always used heavy weight roofing felt strips. Worked great
