Do it yourself bed liner

Did anybody use a bed liner for the cab floor in your truck? I want to use one of the do-it-yourself kits to line the floor before I go to paint and install carpet. No one will see. I am also thinking about lizard skin.

Ive seen a couple of people do it. Planned on it myself, but Im going to use the duplicolor kit...same one I used on my bed and you can get it by the quart or gallon.

Raptor liner is what I have found to work best, I have used on my jeeps etc.. and will be using it again on my 64. you can get the kit on e-bay and amazon for around 100-120 and it includes the gun to spray it. it is so much tougher than Rhino lining its not even funny.

This is mine. It has held up great!! The 1 gallon kit cost me about $90. I put down 2 coats and still have about 1/4 gal left. I also plan to redo my bed once its ready for it.

I'm planning on using Al's Liner. They also have a product called HNR (heat and Noise Reducer) that is less expensive than lizzard skin. Havn't used them yet--so I can't give any pro's or cons on the products.

I put the Henry's roof product in my cab, cheap, works good, and insulates good, 22.00 a gallon and you can't smell it once it cures. My friends call it an Oklahoma special. P.S. Born in Overbrook OK, 1951.

a note on that stuff, dont let it touch your skin, it will take a week or so to wear off. use gloves and a long sleeve shirt.

Not sure about the other products, but you can use Raptor on top of primer or scuffed paint. I used it on my firewall and I’m very impressed with it. Can’t offer an opinion on how well it works for insulation/noise control, but if this had been available 10 years ago I would have done the inside and bottom of the floor with it. It’s easy to apply, provides a very nice finish, and seems extremely durable. There are a many threads on this topic just by searching "Jeep Raptor Bedliner".

I don't see why not. Just read the directions. You may just need to scuff the surface.

Thanks for the feed back. I also was looking at the raptor kit. It seems not bad for $120. Do you think there is enough to shoot the side walls for a stepside bed and cab floor?

there should be more than enough for your truck I had enough to completely do my jeep twice and had enough left to use on my kids wagon. you can also buy extra bottles raptor liner without the gun for like 20.00 apiece. If you look on ebay you can find the raptor for 102.00 right now. Oh and it is tintable if you want it body color. I have used herculiner and all of the others, Raptor just seems to be more durable and less sticky plus with spraying it on you can reach areas you can't reach by rolling.

This is an interesting concept. But doesn't the cab just keep rusting underneath? I'd think you would want to do this you'd want to prep the heck out of it and take it down to shiny bare metal. Is that wrong?

I know what yer saying , Fetch...
As far as rusting underneath...
Any time you can take down the active oxidation...as in scaling and delamming...down to wire wheel condition....and then completely encapsulating it (both sides..).....it'll last as long as it stays encapsulated. But, like y'all know...there's nuthin like white metal.

But...as far as a little rusty color and paint bubble...take it down as far as ya can, and then prime it with a good two stage....and then cover...keeping in mind that with the newer epoxy primers, once it is prepped well and primed, ....all you need to do is protect that primer with a good product.

we used speedliner (similar to Al's from what i seen) on a bunch of cars underbodys works great. My last daily driver i used raptor on the under side and on the floor up the back and firewall and door insides. And MAN WAY BETTER THAN DYNAMAT!!!!!!!!! and was $150.00 total. doing same on the 65 im building now as soon as metal works done.
