Propane Conversion???

I am looking at possibly doing a propane conversion for a blow through turbo set up on my 250...as I understand they are more powerful and they run more efficiently... anyone on here have any experience or thoughts with the propane converted vehicles???

Re: Propane Conversion???

There a joke. I used to service a fleet of trucks that converted to propane. It was troublesome. They were hard to fuel & if you ran out you have to call a tow truck.
It does run clean. You can extend oil change intervals. They pounded the valve seats out also.

Re: Propane Conversion???

I have used propane for years on two different trucks and have gone cross country without any trouble. They were set up as dual fuel. (gas and propane)I have my Gmc on it now

Re: Propane Conversion???

Hmm, last time I ran out of propane I connected a BBQ tank to the truck and drove it to the station. the worst thing about propane is that the stations are usually open from 8 to 5 and closed for lunch.

Re: Propane Conversion???

I forgot to mention that it barely runs on vapor and there is no liquid line on my small tank. Still it beat walking.

Re: Propane Conversion???

I just picked up a conversion kit for my, hopefully, summer C20 build. This is a straight propane not a dual fuel.

I did a couple of dual fuel conversions in the early 80's but haven't dealt with anything other than forklifts and welders since.

Does anyone that is running propane have a modified engine ?
I would like to believe that propane will react to a little bigger cam and free flowing exhaust the same as gasoline. I would like to hear from anyone with some experience on this subject !!

Take care everyone !!

Re: Propane Conversion???

Well I spoke with a gentleman from Canada who setup a blow through with a model 425 and a model E on a 302 engine said it took up to 15lbs of boost fine after that he said it was just a little to much for it. Looks like the conversion with tanks lines and everything will set me back about $1000

Re: Propane Conversion???

What exactly is required to switch one over to propane? I'm guessing the carb and gas lines, but what else?

Re: Propane Conversion???

My dad had one, got worse fuel mileage and wasn't as much power as gas, the lower mpg and at the time propane was higher than now it didn't justify the cost and the fact the state required another yearly inspection also
