Hydraulic Clutch ?

Does anyone know of or heard of a hydraulic clutch conversion kit? I'd love to lose the crossbar and linkage on my 69 C10.

one of the older chevys... I'm wanting to say a 60 or a 66 30 series ran a hyd clutch. The brake master cylinder & clutch mas cyl was 1 unit. The bellhousing was made for a slave cyl too. Hit that forum and do a search.

Look for a manual 86-91 square body and grab the master,slave,lone,and bell housing.

I converted my 72K5 from Z-bar manual to Hydro useing over the counter parts.
I bought 86 GM Clutch Master Cyln and Reservoir
I made a T plate stand/mount for the resey and cut a hole in my firewall.

I bought a 80 Toyota Land Cruzer Clutch Slave cylender and Advance Adapter sells a slave mount bracket that the LCruzer guys use wen they stuff Chevy drivetrain in their rigs.


You can see it on my 72 cast 465bell.
Wen I bought the mounting bracket they sold me Earls AN 3 hose to attach slave to master.

I had to bring the master out a bit to alow the clutch pedel to full release so I built a 1/2 thick spacer.
been working great eversence..


There are other ways to doit. Novak (sp?) sells a kit, not sure whats up with it? Others have adapted all GM Hydro parts from a 86+ donor truck.
I wanted to keep my stronger cast iron bell housing so I went this route.

Thanks Burt- Pics are worth a thousand words. How do you like the Pro-Flo? I have the same setup and I love it. In the process of adding a second O2 sensor (wideband) for better tuning.

Pro-Flo is AWESOME

I went from a tired ole 350 w/Qjet to a reworked 454 with the Pro-Flo and OMG!! Throttle responce is simply amazing. I can climb trails with my feet on the floor and it will just motor up/over/thru..coarse there is a point I have to feed the fuel but you dig what I'm sayin
I will admit I had a hard time tunning it so I took it in to a local dyno shop and in 2hrs they had it dialed from idel to WOT. Good thing too my A/F was way off and would have burnt up my engine in time...
Anyway talking about the pro-flo allways gets me goin!!!

This is how it looked all freash and ready to Fire Up
Turned it into a whole new rig! Good Luck

Burt when you did the conversion did you use the stock fork and throw out bearing? I know it's an old thread but I'm doing this conversion myself right now.

Yup ~ I used the stock fork, made my own return spring to make sure the TO bearing fully disengages from the PPlate.

here you can kinda see the fork..reminds me I used a bolt, ground off the head then rounded the point to seat into the slave as the slave did not come with a push rod...so I made one..worked great!!

Really good news there. I just picked up the land cruiser slave and mine came with a rod and a bolt setup that looks just like what you did and fits in my stock fork. I've just got to fab the bracket to hold the slave now. Im thinking just find the stroke of the cylinder measure off that and make the bracket off the bellhousing like yours. How heavy of a spring did you use and wear did you mount it to?

I've also looked down this road, as Novak makes a couple of conversions for old chevy bell housings to go to hydraulic.

If you look at the pic above with my bellhousing sitting on the bench you will see the slave mount on the bell. Look at the bottom of the slave mount and you see a hole = spring hole. So I put the spring from that to the end of the fork. I bought a package of trottle springs and used two. One inside the other and made sure it was just enough tension to pull away the TO bearing from PPlate. Been working great.

Heres the one I'm working on. This is the Novak conversion for Chevy truck. The bellhousing is a chevy c-10 v8 bellhousing # 3815891. I opted for the machine work for the slave mount, but it can be done with a spacer and shortening the push rod. I'm going this route to make clearance for headers on my big block. I went with grade 8 bolts for the bellhousing to block mount and AN fittings and stainless steel hose instead of hard line or rubber.

I have been working on the access cover for the clutch fork. How much of a tolerance should I be looking for. Right now the clutch fork operates forward and rear just fine, but with 1/64 tolerance from the clutch fork to the top & bottom of the casting. I would need 1/4" total to allow for the gasket due to the thicker clutch fork that came with the kit. My other option would be to take the arm to my local fab shop and have them dimple the fork or take more off the bellhousing. Any suggestions on which avenue is best? The OEM fork is 1" & the Novak fork is 1 11/16"

I would like to mock it up on the trans w/complete clutch/flywheel assembly to see if it rubs any. I would like to be able to use the clutch fork gasket to keep rocks & crap out of the bellhousing is the ultimate goal here.

What did you end up doing to fix the clearance issue?
