Heater Problem
So I bought a 1986 Chevy Pickup, the slider that moves left & right to select heat or cold only moves halfway to the middle and my heat is constantly on. In Kansas we have been having really good weather and it sucks driving down the street or highway and the heat is on... I roast lol!!! So if someone can help me figure out how I can fix this I would greatly appreciate it thanks in advance!

AC truck?
Slider should be connected to a cable, running down to a flapper on the heater box. Something is bound up or broken. That said, the only way I've found to shut off the heat completely is to bypass the heater core.

i don't know much about the a/c equipped trucks, but on the non-a/c, the cable attached to that lever, directly moves the blend door to open or close off the heater core from the passenger compartment.
For the really cold weather, I tend to disconnect the cable and wedge my blend door to the full heat setting, since it would ordinarily still let in cold outside air no matter how much I tried to adjust the cable, which doesn't allow for much adjustment anyway. Possible that yours is also not even connected to the cable, thus giving you that kind of heat all the tiime? You should be able to see the blend door actuator behind the glove box.

I just recently put my vents, etc. back together and am experiencing a bit of the same problem. I know the flapper is operational, but when it is in the cold position/closed there is still a noticeable amount of hot air coming through.
Is this just unavoidable? Living in TX I only need heat for about 3 months a year.

Ok, the cable that moves the flapper isn't connected. I pulled the glove box and moved the flapper around and it works. But the cable isn't connected nor does it seem long enough to keep the flapper in the closed position. Any fix ideas??

Re connect it. You may have to unhook the cable from the box mount. There really not that different than a lawnmower throttle cable.
Cables usually don't shrink with age.

you can adjust the cable how much it open ether way. if the end peice breaks you can go to the dealer ship and get a new one. the other peice in the pic you can get there to real cheap
