stepside vs fleetside

I tried searching but couldnt find an answer. I have a 73 shortbed fleetside with hd rear spring option and sbc/400 trans. Also have 74 stepside with exact same options. Which one is heavier? Does anyone know what the weight would be?

Re: stepside vs fleetside

Do you mean the difference in the weight of the beds? I've converted a truck from a fleet to a step with just me and a friend doing the lifting by hand and we couldn't tell the difference in the weight. I know that's not an accurate measurement but if there is a difference it must not be much.

Re: stepside vs fleetside

I guess maybe I answered my own question. I just looked at the pinks for both of my trucks and saw the unladen weight. Short fleet is 3720 and short stepside is 3987. Only difference between the two is the stepside has dual gas tanks. I just dont get why a step would weigh that much more.

The wood floor makes up allot of that weight. I love scrapping wood floor trucks it's free money.

Well you know what, as bad as weight is. In this case, the weight is in the right place... from a racing point of view at least.

Re: stepside vs fleetside

My shortbed sport is an original stepside but someone put a fleetside on it I bought a stepside for it to put back on it it's off an 81 and newer truck with no marker light holes and someone put fiberglass fenders on it I don't know what kind of wood it has but thos SOB was heavy for having fiberglass fenders, in my opinion I think stepsides are heavier just because of the wood floor if you have a heavy oak floor
