Odometer Calibration
Any of you guys know how to move the odometer numbers? I just got a new cluster and want to try and move number to actual miles since trucks been put together will all new parts. Anyone have a write up on it?

Re: Odometer Calibration
Yes,but it takes forever! Some are tamper-proof,and trying to turn them back makes an indicator pop up.You can turn them forward,if you take the unit out of the bezel.Inside, you'll see small star wheels beside each #.Use a small screwdriver, and click each # forward, until it reaches the proper mileage. In Michigan, when the speedometer is replaced, and reset,it has to be certified,or else noted as "NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE",on the title.

Re: Odometer Calibration
Does the old speedometer and odometer work?
Assuming the old one works you can move the original speedometer from the old cluster to the new one. If the old one isn't working the mileage is anyone's guess. Some states have a form to fill out that states you have replaced the speedometer. The forms I have filled out state a replacement odometer MUST read ZERO. You must also re-title. The new title will say "NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE". |

Re: Odometer Calibration
BLE 'BURBAN wow you got done on your whole cluster. Im going to have to figure some things out due to the tach being from a 77 and my cluster a 79. I want to try and test the temp gauge and volt gauge before i put them in any ideas? ive put new senders on engine with currenct gauges in truck and nothing works. Also heres my idea for the brake warning light, i can move the red clear paper over to the speedometer side, since my truck is not 4wheel drive i could repin the harness to route the brake light to the 4wheel light so it operates normally. Thats the only light im worried about. Have any diagrams for the harness or how did you find everything out sorry for the long post..

Re: Odometer Calibration
There's a pinout sheet in the 73-87 FAQ.
The volt gauge is easy. Just feed it 12 volts + & - and it should read 12 volts. The Temp sender is a variable resistance between the gauge and ground. 13Kohms is 20degrees (well below the bottom reading) 18Kohms is "C" 100degress and 100ohms is "H" 250degrees. 180ohms is roughly 210 degrees. Grab a $0.10 200ohm 1/4watt resistor (Red, Black, Brown) and 2 alligator clip test leads. Clip one end to the block and the other to the temp sender wire. The temp gauge should read somewhere near the middle. Replace with a 100ohm (Brown, Black, Brown) resistor and the gauge should read at or near the top. I have a Decade box but they're kinda expensive when compared with $0.20 of resistors. |
