donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

have the option to grab an '87 chevy 2wd 1/2 ton for $250.00... think this is a good donor for the daughters '66 3/4 ton swap? all there, body is bad and the V6 is toast. but all suspension is intact and 3:42 ratio in the rear would probably be fine for her and the straight 6 in the '66. i know the rear is a little wider and will need mounts but no biggie. what do you guys think?

I don`t believe the front crossmember (suspension )comes out, I think that stopped in `86, you`ll have to look at it to be sure.

Yup perfect candidate for suspension swap. any 73-87 will work great.

Re: donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

thanks guys, Rich 5150 69...i was under the impression that they did. i could see the two side bolts that go through the top of the craddle and through the frame. guess i'll have to go double check today. I kinda thought i could use the power stering and the brake system also, to try and keep it all from one truck / year.

Re: donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

I'm sure CaptainFab will chime in to confirm, but it should be a straight swap.

It's the perfect candidate. For $250, that's a great deal. When you're done, you'll be able to get that much (or more) for the scrap value of what's left. It's a win/win!

Re: donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

Yes that is a good donor for your '66 C20. However, you will have to change the entire front suspension, crossmember and all. You can't just change the control arms on the '63-'66 C20 and C30's.

Ok so I lied, not sure what year was the cutoff.

Re: donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

Can't you just swap the upper a-arms and spindles?

Re: donor truck for the '66...what do you think?

Not on the '63-'66 C20's. The C20's use a larger lower ball joint, so the C10 balljoints will not fit. The '63-'66 lower control arm shafts are flat, so there is no saddle to accomodate the C10, or '67+ C20 lower control arm shafts.
