Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
Went and picked up this former Texas truck today. It's a 68 lwb 1/2 ton. Guy said the motor is a 305 but it run pretty good, still has the original 400 trans. Truck is a factory a/c truck with all the equipment in tact. It's got a pretty sweet grille guard which has kept the grille in near perfect condition. Oh and the best part besides the price is it's 99% rust free.

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
Sweet! I love the '68s. I love the grill gaurd. Coriscana is just south of Dallas/ Fort Worth, Texas.
Do you have any pictures of the motor. 307s were standard equipment for a V8 truck. 327 was optional. If you can take a picture of the SPID we can tell you more info about your truck. Congats, Keith |

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
The spud shows that the truck originally had a 327, like I posted earlier the guy i got it from said the currant motor is a 305, don't know for sure. My plans are to take the rust free cab and front clip from it and put with my rust free short wide bed and frame from the 70 gmc.
The goal is to take this truck Add this truck Equals something like this Posted via Mobile Device

Cool truck, I love that grille guard. My dads 71 came from the dealer with the exact same one.

That's funny cause that is the same goal I have for my 68 swb. Rene's "Gumby" is nice and classy.

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
I guess that 1% rust is where the paint used to be on the surface. Just messing with you, good score. Its amazing how the sun roasts the paint off old cars and trucks out that way. Good luck with your project!

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
The only rust I've found is a dime sized spot on the left outer rocker.

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
She's a beauty! I'm digging the final concept, but keep the grill guard (cleaned up) just to be different.
Looking forward to a good build thread.

That truck is a Real survivor! You gotta keep that grille guard and rear bumper..I love those dealer stamped bumpers, and I'll bet White chevy in Corsicana Texas is long gone!

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
Your second cousin twice removed "La Cucaracha" would look like a bonita senorita with a grill guard like that. Nice fine BTW. Ole

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
Here are some more pics of the ole truck, is the hd rear spring the add on springs or stiffer coil springs?
The guy said the stacked air filters gave him 5 extra miles per gallon And a couple pics of the trucks all lined up Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Introducing Nacho's Texan cousin El Guapo
HD rear spring would be a higher rate/stiffer spring. The aux spring equipment is the helper that mounts just ahead of the bumper.
